Powering on

Welcome to the powerplant

It’s been a while since I did a blog post, but in the sake of trying to keep up a bit of consistency, here’s the latest developments.

After coming up with a whole host of additional powers, I’ve ‘immortalised’ them into the rulebook. From here I can refer back to with playtesters as I determine whether they’re impactful/over or underpowered/fun.

I created a prototype physical power grid/mat to be able to track the powers in board, pics below.

So yes, adding a measly (I may have been scraping the initial thought barrel bottom for some of the last ones) 21 powers brings the total possible combinations to some crazy +12k - or, if order on the grid matters (which I think one side and the center run do, the opposite side would count as a flip), the total combinations balloons out to +200k different combinations. Adding just one extra rule brings layers to establishing a meta per game and really helps with the replayability.

That being said, unless you have someone teaching you the game, I don’t think the first playthough requires all the powers, sacrifices or even bonus objectives to be a fun game. There’s still a lot to be gained from it being a simpler ‘puzzle builder’.

I’ve also added a bunch more diagrams that describe some of the rules, adding in a few mini adjustments to others - like numbering in the crafty critters power to more obviously outline which tile was bought when.

The website is constantly getting overhauls to the design, playing with scale of things. Trying to break away from the original concept of my other hobby/collection site - mechanicalpencil.art
